Possible Ways In Which To Accomplish The Change Process Or Set A Goal:

·        Make a conscious decision to change.  Perhaps this is the most important first step in the process.  If you do not deliberately choose to change, only wish to change, you may be missing a critical component of the process.  This may seem like “semantics” to some.  However, there is a real and significant difference.  There are effective ways in which to choose to change.  Here is an important point:  a person desiring a thing, must consciously decide to achieve that thing, and believe that they will.  There is a certain very powerful formula for helping this process along, but it may or may not need to be used by every person for every goal.  I can share this information with you in an easily understandable format. 

·        Choose a resource to help your process.  Some “do-it-yourselfer’s” prefer to do everything with their own assets and little or no help from other resources.  If this is you, I genuinely wish you good luck and the absolute best; you probably do not need or desire my services.  However, there is a saying that the definition of insanity is performing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.  Therefore, if you decide to make changes, it may be a good idea to seek out information on how to effectively make positive changes in your life.  Some people who wish to change may buy informational resources such as audio tapes, books, goal-specific programs, such as “get rich quick” programs, or “miracle” weight reduction programs, and try to figure out the program using those resources.  Still others spend thousands of dollars on seminars and materials from famous persons to achieve their goals, this works very well for many people who can afford it.  A somewhat newer resource is the personal coach.  Some people hire a personal coach and begin to find ways in which to make positive change in their lives.  Unless you are the do it yourselfer, using these kinds of resources can be expensive.  In deciding to make positive change in your life and before you act, it is a good idea to carefully make a cost-analysis of how much time, energy, and money you are willing to put into making an intelligent, positive, and truly desired change in your life.

·        Clarify your goals.  Again, this may seem somewhat elementary.  However, an example may be helpful to explain the importance of this concept.  If I make a conscious decision to lose weight, that is great.  The “goal” is certainly a positive one.  By losing weight, I’ll become more healthy and less likely to have heart disease, or other obesity related problems.  That seems like a wonderful “goal.”  Well, it’s not really a goal!  I’m sorry for the unpleasant surprise.  The desire is to lose weight and become more healthy and feel better.  However, I cannot use this as my goal because it’s not specific enough!  How am I going to lose weight?  How much weight am I going to lose?  Do I intend to lose overall scale weight, or be more specific and try to keep my lean muscle mass and lose only bodyfat.  Am I going to lose weight as fast as I can regardless of the physical danger it would place my body in, or am I going to lose weight at the medically recommended loss per week ratio?  Taking into account my time, physical laws of nature, current ability to afford food, buy a gym membership, and other items, how long should I give myself to reach a certain weight loss goal during a certain frame of time?  This example shows the kind of specificity that needs to be clarified prior to beginning work on any goal.
